Design Works: Final Fantasy 20th Anniversary Reminiscence

The last couple years has been filled with anniversary announcements, releases and gifts for Square-Enix. 2006 saw the 20th anniversary of Dragon Quest, which prompted the release of special collectable figures, the announcement of DQIX, and the release of Dungeon R, the Dragon Quest limited edition board game.

2007 was Final Fantasy’s turn. With the spotlight on the Fabula Nova Crystalis compilation as well as the release of the Final Fantasy IV remake for DS, it seemed like there would be no better time than now to realize a retrospective book of the series’ history; its successes and failures. Reminiscence really is the book you didn’t know you wanted until right now.

Published by Enterbrain, publisher of ファミ通 (Famitsu) magazine, Final Fantasy Reminiscence is a hardbound collector’s item for any Final Fantasy fan. The book itself is split into three parts:

Chapter 1 - A Retrospective of the series, including spell lists, detailed descriptions of battle systems, and even which games had which summon creatures.

Chapter 2 - Developer Interviews, including Nobuo Uematsu, Akitoshi Kawazu, Yoshitaka Amano, and even series creator Hironobu Sakaguchi.

Chapter 3 - Literally called the et cetera chapter, this chapter contains information on events and awards related to Square-Enix since 2000.

The book is filled with plenty of full color art and screenshots, and even includes information on Final Fantasy XI, updated to include the newest expansion.

The book itself has a high quality clear plastic slip case with silver embossed writing, and a raised and embossed hard cover. Inside are 207 pages cut from high grade paper stock with a matte finish. The book itself runs for 2500 円, but there is no confirmation if it is available to those living outside Japan. As usual, I recommend checking local or online import shops for details.

I would like to file a protest with Square-Enix to remove that picture of the Galka in Red Mage Artifact armor and replace it with a Mithra or Hume…

…oh yeah, need to order. >.>
